The QED Subwoofer 40 is primarily designed for low capacitance, as this has been identified by QED as an essential factor for a tight sound that maintains the rhythm of the original piece - crucial when it comes to the 'bottom'! Minute timing errors are improved by QED's Complementary Conductor Technology™ combined with a special liquid Zn/Mn ferrite jacket to absorb very high frequency noise outside the audible range. The QED Analoc2™ connector design helps control eddy currents that can also affect the microtiming of the audio signal, maintaining high fidelity from start to finish.

Reference Subwoofer 40 has won more What Hi-fi Awards than any other single brand. With the Reference cable series, this heritage is delivered directly and without compromise. All QED cables are designed according to the top-down principle, with the Reference Subwoofer 40 representing the highest level of musical performance.

The liquid inner ferrite sheath absorbs high-frequency noise signal components outside the audio band. When measured with high frequency measurement equipment, Audio 40 products transmit a comparably cleaner and tighter signal pattern when its special Zn/Mn ferrite jacket is present. This has a beneficial effect on the microtiming of the audio signal and may explain the clear preference expressed for the ferrite jacket in listening tests.

The new Analoc2™ connector design still incorporates low bulk, high purity copper connectors along with low mass metal bar connectors, but now smartly substitutes high-rigidity plastic material for both the internal support structure and the cable relief to eliminate the harmful effects of eddy currents. Although already smaller than in traditional bulk brass connectors, these adverse currents could still circulate weakly in the insulated metal body of the previous connector design. Now with the new material in place, these remaining resonant distortions are completely prevented from affecting the information contained in the audio signal as it travels through the new connector.

To complete the RCA connector's Analoc2™ upgrade and to help combat the rail effect, the hollow, gold-plated, high-purity copper signals are preserved, while the efficiency of the slide washer, which locks the similarly gold-plated, pure copper earth terminal in place, is also improved.

Complementary Conductor Technology improves timing and detail and preserves the rhythm of the original piece - crucial when it comes to the 'bottom'. Unlike conventional analog interconnects, the Reference Audio 40 uses two silver-plated 99.999% Oxygen Free Copper conductors of different diameters to carry the same audio signal. This has the effect of providing an alternative signal path for more subtle audio components that might otherwise be temporally blurred in a single audio path. The Reference Subwoofer 40 is further optimized by having a 25% smaller diameter than the Reference Audio 40, which makes it more practical for the long runs around the room.
