A SCART cable is used to transmit analogue video and sound signals. SCART is a widely used connector and is an exclusively European standard. Through a SCART cable, it is possible to transmit both normal Composite Video, and either S-Video or RGBs, and of course stereo sound. The SCART standard further contains control signals for controlling the video format (4:3 and 16:9) and the option of automatic switching on the receiver, i.e. when you push play, the TV automatically switches to the correct input.
