Acoustics and security for installation:

A fire and acoustic hood is designed to cover the back of in-ceiling and in-wall speakers and is a legal requirement for many new buildings. However, whether legally required or not, we would recommend them as a safety measure. Using a fire and acoustic hood helps to resist the spread of fire through the floors of a building and reduce the transmission of noise to adjacent rooms and properties.

The hoods maintain the fire rating of the ceiling to which they are mounted, enabling 30 or 60 minute fire rating maintenance. Tested in the UK Building Test Center and complies with Part B and Part E of the UK Building Regulations - reports available on request.

When a speaker is installed in a ceiling or wall, it can help transmit unwanted sound, potentially to another property, even when the speaker is not in use. Adding these caps effectively restores the acoustic integrity of the ceiling or wall. When the speaker is in use, it can also reduce the rear transmission of sound by about 10 dB in the mid to high frequency range. Prevention of transmission of low (bass) frequencies is a specialist field and may require considerable additional treatment.
