Inspired by design solutions taken directly from the super-exclusive Naiad, priced at over 300,000 DKK, Rega has developed a turntable that you don't just have to dream about!Ten years ago, Rega set out to explore how good a turntable could actually be made. Project Naiad was initiated with the goal of examining every component of a turntable and pushing the physical boundaries of what can be achieved using extreme materials and modern production methods, regardless of cost. With a price of more than 300,000 DKK, the Naiad is far from a typical store product, making it a turntable that most can only dream of. However, while new products are often based on upgrades of existing models, the Planar 8 was developed using the innovative solutions that shaped the Naiad. The Planar 8 is more of a "mini Naiad" with a focus on economic material choices, rather than an improvement of the existing RP-8. This applies to both its design and sound quality. More from the groove Every part of the Rega Planar 8 is designed to extract as much detail from the vinyl groove as possible. Advanced materials and engineering solutions have been used to ensure the best performance, centered around an ultra-light plinth. The outer frame from the previous model has been removed, reducing the size of the plinth, and the classic dust cover has been replaced with a new, flat lid—both changes significantly reduce the overall weight of the turntable. The Planar 8 comes with the new RB-880 tonearm, which, with a zero-tolerance bearing design, is the perfect partner for the best cartridges. The motor on the Rega Planar 8 is controlled by the advanced Neo PSU power supply. NEO PSU offers crystal-controlled, adjustable speed, along with advanced anti-vibration control. The energy from the motor is transferred to the precision-machined aluminum sub-platter, and from there to the triple-layer Pilkington glass platter via a newly developed EBLT drive belt. In summary, the new Rega Planar 8 NEO turntable features: • New Tancast 8 lightweight plinth • Double-Brace Technology • New Rega RB-880 tonearm • New center bearing with sub-platter • Triple-layer glass platter with high flywheel effect • 24V low-vibration motor with newly developed mounting • EBLT precision drive belt • Neo PSU digital motor control Since the turntable is smaller than previous Rega models, an ultra-lightweight wall mount made from laser-cut aluminum has been developed for the Rega Planar 8.
