More than 100 years ago, the great Danish success story began, which later became the Ortofon we know today. On October 9, 1918, the two Danish engineers Axel Petersen (1887-1971) and Arnold Poulsen (1889-1952) founded the 'Electric Phono Film Company' in Copenhagen along with a few forward-thinking businessmen who wanted to financially support the organization. Their goal was to explore the possibility of high-class sound recording and to develop one of the first sound-synchronized film systems in the world.
In 1948, Ortofon developed their first Moving Coil cartridge and since then more than 300 different cartridge's have been developed and produced - Today, Ortofon A/S employs more than 100 staff at their headquarters in Nakskov, Denmark, where Ortofon is not only the world's leading manufacturer of cartridge's with sales of over 500,000 units per year, but also the largest producer of cartridge's in the world. In addition to catridge, Ortofon also produces a myriad of accessories for turntables in general. Ortofon is a shining example of a Danish brand that reaches far beyond the country's borders and is therefore also sold in more than 60 countries, including the United States and Japan.
